Why You Shouldn't Be Afraid of Our FAR Infrared Sauna

Here at La Mision Fitness and Yoga we offer a very unique service for our members and our community: FAR Infrared Sauna Treatment.

While our Infrared Sauna works in a similar premise to more traditional saunas (dry heat or steam) it also differs in a few big ways.

To begin with, FAR Infrared Saunas use infrared light as it’s heating element instead of a stove or hot water. Infrared light is not visible to the human eye, but heats our bodies directly through the air. The light can penetrate up to 2 inches of skin and increases heart rate, blood flow and respiration rates. The effect of sitting in an infrared sauna is similar to vigorously walking for the same amount of time!

FAR Infrared Saunas do not get nearly as hot as other types of saunas, and do not even need to use high heats in order to be effective. This makes infrared sauna experiences much more relaxing. Many of our members use their time in the sauna to read, meditate, or reflect on their day.

Lastly, FAR Infrared Sauna exposure is effective, and has few harmful effects. Infrared Saunas are made with the same technology used in neonatal resuscitation beds, and because it does not rely on heat to be effective even the most heat sensitive individuals can reap the benefits of infrared treatment. FAR Infrared Saunas have been clinically shown to do the following:

  • Reduce: stress, chronic pain, fatigue, inflammation, oxidative stress, hypertension, and symptoms of congestive heart failure.

  • Increase: exercise tolerance, resting metabolic rate, lactation in breastfeeding mothers, and sleep quality.

Researchers are also beginning to look into using Infrared saunas for treating certain types of cancers and, even more health benefits have been reported anecdotally outside of the lab.

Be sure to stop by La Misión Fitness & Yoga to learn even more about our FAR Infrared Sauna Cabin, or to schedule your first sauna experience
